It was cold evening of January 13 in MDI Gurgaon hostel and discussion was going on that whether one should do MBA or not. I never gave a thought about MBA in my life till this day. I am a person for whom "CAT" only means a animal name and i dont know about the test they conduct, some aptitude test which checks its "Combination" and after that they admit some crazy youngsters to colleges called IIMs somewhere in cities like Bangalore, Ahemdabad or Lucknow. Then these youngsters make it to big companies like Lehman Brothers or Merrill Lynch to take these companies to new heights. Oppss ....heights ...is it ??
Gaurav Mishra, is a B.Tech. from MNNIT,Allahabad and passed in 1999, currently doing executive MBA from MDI Gurgaon. On that evening he is giving me tips about MBA ( after all he is my first boss in Maruti). I admire this person for his skills and what he gained in Maruti in these 8 years. He said that what they teach us in ENGG. colleges is all crap. But what they teach us here in MBA is really good stuff. They teach us marketting "How to sell", they teach us how to handle people, how to handle customers and more then that "How to handle Money".
The last word gave a spark to my mind -"MONEY". I just love anythning related to money so I heard carefully. He discussed about stock market, mutual funds, world economy, Tata corus deal and current recession around the Globe. Ohooo .....do they teach so much in MBA, I never thought it. I always loved finance. I love movement of stocks and I follow SENSEX and other such things on daily basis and I love to read anything related to instrument called "MONEY".
So, do we need and MBA do get knowledge of money. I still feel "NO". Knowledge can come from any where. Do we really learned anything in Engg. coll that we are using today ??? My answer is a BIG NO. But ENGG. college degree helped us to get a job and to prove that we are a part of so called "Intellectual class".
Even Gaurav said that there are some stupid classmates also from some PSUs, oho I missed, some Navratana PSUs who dont know anything of MBA but they will also get a degree. Getting MBA is just a proof that we understand "MONEY,MARKET & MAN" and we are above that so called intellectual class, we are now Highly professional and highly Intellectual class !!!
I have heard about few companies recruiting these MBAs at packages like 1.0 crores Rs/Yr. For me it sounds absolutley illogical. These MBAs taught subprime lessons to US banks, they started investment banking, they started high return mutual funds and they got so many deals done, Tata Jaguar being one of them. They are really adding value to world economy. They are making it like never before, really never before in my life time. We have seen worst economic year ever in 2008 and credit goes to .................................... No comments !!!
But I totally agree with Raghu, If theses dabawala can follow six sigma without a MBA or Engineer then why Toyota needs MBA to do that. Its all in mind and B.TECH. or MBA is just a proof of your level of intelligence. I got B.Tech. and I feel I need this proof again.
I must have a MBA to prove that I am better than that Intellectual class, now I am highly Professional and highly Intellectual class.
I should be a MBA !!!
But, I am not loving it !!!
